ღ - I watched The Umbrella Academy and I really enjoyed it a lot, enough to marathon it pretty quickly. It's a fascinating look at a group of really fucked up people who don't realize just how much they're hurting each other, because they're so wrapped up in their own pain, how their childhood abuse and the deliberate ways they were harmed continues to affect them, but now they have to stop blaming their dad and start owning their own behavior, it was wrenching, but also really rewarding an experience.

I've talked about this a bit on tumblr, where I think the show both succeeds and doesn't quite succeed, is in that the plot itself is pretty routine, it takes a backseat to the Hargreeves' family drama. I think this is absolutely what the story should be about! But, at the same time, it does make things terribly predictable, in a way that would be difficult to get around, because the apocalypse mystery never really gets much attention beyond being set dressing. I had no problem with any particular scene and I thought the number of episodes was just right to give everyone's reactions time to breathe/for me to really feel them, yet something still feels not quite clicked into place.

That said, it has charm and charisma in absolute spades, I couldn't put the show down, the performances are all fantastic, I had intense affection for the entire cast, and I really, really want a second season, because I think they could go some really fascinating places. I can see why it's gotten all the buzz it's been getting!

ღ - In contrast, I don't think I've seen much buzz for Russian Doll, but maybe I'm just out of the loop on these things. I checked it out after seeing a brief comment cross my dash + I like Natasha Lyonne + the premise sounded interesting! In contrast to TUA, if this one doesn't get a second season (though, there is a lot of room for it), I would be satisfied because the structure of the story absolutely nailed what it needed to do.

I started the show wanting answers about the time loop mystery, why and how it was happening, but the end of the show had me caring very little about that, because it wasn't really a story about the metaphysics of it all, but instead a story about people and connections to each other. It was a story about what these people needed for themselves and in their connections to someone else and where the characters ended up was incredibly satisfying for that.

I liken it to TUA a lot, because they both have stories with central figures about damaged people who have to own up to how much they're hurting people around them, that whatever damage their parents inflicted on them was real, but now they have to deal with their own shit, especially complicated and messy female characters (THERE ARE NEVER ENOUGH), and tell stories that really scratch that itch of exploring how difficult a path that is, but it's ultimately very rewarding.

BUT ALSO it's just really fun, there's some great aesthetics and great dialogue (pretty much everything that comes out of Nadia's mouth is G O L D) and is great for when you're hungry for something with some punch, but you won't lose your will to live over.

ღ - More podcasts! I've been bad and I'm listening to Sword and Scale again, because it's like a trainwreck and I can't look away! It's the same thing with why I still listen to Hollywood Babble-On, which is really pretty terrible with the sexism and crassness, but ease of familiarity and the occasional genuine IRL LOL they wring out of me, is a hard momentum to overcome.

I have one episode left of Gone Fishing, which is a 8 part (and they're only about half hour length) podcast about a woman jailed for killing someone that there's a strong suspicion she very clearly did not and the complicated web of why they can't really just let her go. I'm not usually into Australian podcasts--much as I love the accent, it distracts during true crime podcasts for me--but this one hooked me hard and it's a great look into the case, totally recommended.

ღ - I watched Fyre (the Netflix one, I've only just started Fyre Fraud, the Hulu one) and I knew the basic outline, of course, but watching the trainwreck happen over the course of a couple of hours was fascinating. I do think that they kind of went soft on the whole thing, especially considering the HUGE REVEALS that happen in the last 20-30 minutes that basically just get brushed over (I understand why, they're trying to build a sense of betrayal, like you think this guy is just incompetent, then WHAM you find out what's really going on, but I don't think they hammered it home enough at the end and should have had a better balance for it), but they certainly captured the feeling of being unable to look away from the whole thing and you get why so many people got sucked into this thing. Very much recommended!

ღ - Most of what time I spend on-line lately has been making Battlefront II gifs because Anakin finally came to the game and he's sooooo beautiful. I'm only sad that you can't mod this game like Skyrim, where I could grab adult mods and make my characters bang. (You have no idea how tempted I am to make Star Wars lookalikes, but that's a lot of work and the world doesn't really lend itself that well to a Star Wars crossover. OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE.)

Other than that, I've been catching up on comics and trying to clear a little backlog before Queen's Shadow comes out. SO CURIOUS ABOUT IT. I wonder why we didn't get an excerpt from it, though?
gffa: (Default)
ღ - Me: "I don't really even like true crime that much!" Me, five minutes later: "So, I'm going to give Last Podcast on the Left another shot, this time starting with the Dr. Josef Mengele episode!" While I have to turn the sound down, because everyone sounds like they're shouting, I'm so far really engaged with the episode, the hosts have clearly done a lot of research, there's an appropriate amount of outrage about the subject and horrors that were committed, while not making me feel like it's draining away my will to live.

I'll be glad if I can get into the swing of this podcast, it seems like everyone loves it, but I never could quite get into it before, and I need something to listen to that's not just more Star Wars, at least until there's a second season of Cocaine and Rhinestones. ;)

ღ - I haven't watched The Dragon Prince season 2 yet and I don't really have a reason, I guess I'm just not in a watching things mood. Or I'm really tired lately, idk. I have been curious about The Umbrella Academy, I've seen it mentioned around a lot, and have been wondering if it's worth picking up!

ღ - I'm clearing out a big of backlog reading-wise, because I'd like to finish Join the Resistance (which I recommend, but mostly as an audiobook, I think it's easier to listen passively to get invested in the kids, rather than try to actively read) before Queen's Shadow comes out. Which is in TWO WEEKS!

I'm sort of hesitant to get my hopes up, because the last book I was excited about was Thrawn: Alliances and that did not go so well, but I'm really curious about it! I wonder if, between this and the two Padme comics that are upcoming and the new toys coming out for her, we'll see this trend of giving her focus continue?

ღ - Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith #3: A lot of what I posted about this issue wasn't precisely meta, but more cackling posts about Vader's level of extra (the water scene that was straight out of a shoujo anime was *chef's kiss against fingers*) but I did like some of the stuff being set-up here!

ExpandDarth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith #3 )

Addendum 2019.02.16: Loooking back at this issue and the feelings I had around it, with the full context of everything that happens in this comic, I would say Vader's a little more complicated than just a walking black hole of Wanting to Die, he does want other things, he wants to tear apart the galaxy, he wants to get Padme back, etc. But even with all that, his desire to die, to end this miserable path he's chosen, is very much at the heart of things.

I'm not sure if he's planning to try to revive Padme at this point or not? That would make a big difference to him, because he's hanging so much of himself on her presence, because he idealizes the thought of getting her back and, now that I'm thinking on it, I wonder how it would have gone if he had indeed been able to revive her, if that had been at all possible.

Padme, of course, would not be pleased with this, but she was pretty broken down by the end of ROTS, she'd already been so isolated, having to keep her secrets and not really knowing how to handle Anakin and the crumbling Republic around her so that even her passion for democracy was being smothered out, it wouldn't be a huge leap of logic to see Vader hiding her away, keeping her alone in a room, as she grows duller and duller, until she's not really there in anything but body and spirit.

Would that be enough for Vader? Would he be satisfied with that? In the absence of anything or anyone to check his possessive tendencies and idealizing their relationship, would being able to fully possess her satisfy him, or would he feel the distance and loss of what makes her her enough that it would make a difference?

Anakin and Padme had so little time to come to truly know each other, so Anakin's desperate, "I can't live without her!" isn't about Padme's personality (because, when she disapproves of what he's done, he's furious that she would back away from him) but about how he needs her physically there, he needs her to soothe him. If he has enough of that with her being blank-eyed and stuck in a room, where she'll let him hold her hand or let him rest his helmet against her hair, would that be all Vader really wanted anyway?

Or would he become angry that she's not really there and tear it all down again?

ღ - Thanks to [personal profile] trickytricky's recommendation, I've been listening to the Blueprint for Armageddon podcast, which is about the lead-up to World War I, as well as all the other political and historical context that led up to it. It's definitely a bit on the rambly side, the host has some inflections that took me awhile to get used to, but as promised it's utterly engaging and really interesting to look at, in the context of how Star Wars is a reflection of reality in some ways, in the sense of all these complicated moving pieces contributing to a bigger whole.

It's interesting for it's own sake, rather than for giving context to SW, I would say, but I would recommend it so far, even though I'm only an hour into the first one. Even if history isn't usually your thing, the host is compelling enough that it's still really cool to listen to.

ღ - I feel like I either go 1mph or 100mph when it comes to Star Wars lately (to be fair, I set up this journal and my tumblr specifically to be Star Wars-only, with some minor personal stuff sneaking in occasionally) and a lot of that comes down to whether or not the thing I'm reading is something that really speaks to me. I've been a little anxiety-ridden lately, so upcoming canon is stressing me out, so I'm embracing something more of a "Fuck it, then I'm just going to read the things I want to read and try to have fun for five minutes!" attitude, which worked out pretty well when I reread Shipyards of Doom and had all the Obi-Wan feelings again.

Anyway, my point is, HERE HAVE SOME ARCHIVE META AGAIN. (Tagged as #canon because some points are ones that are relevant to canon that I'll want to revisit, even though the comics themselves are very much Legends and anything they add is not canon.)

ღ - Me: I'm gonna get back to archiving my meta on this blog again!
Me, five minutes later: Orrrrrr you could do a personal post like you actually want to do.

(It's hard to motivate myself to post the meta here when it's so designed for tumblr + I don't think tumblr's going anywhere. I do want to! I will get back to it! Just let me establish some personal stuff on this journal for awhile.)

ღ - Podcast rec of the week: Cocaine and Rhinestones is absolutely fascinating to listen to, despite that I'm not really at all a fan of country music. You can tell the host really spent a lot of time with these stories and really did his best to find the truth as much as he could and understand what was really going on, but mostly it's just an excellent look at these people who are amazing and did amazing things, sometimes that are way, way over the line. Even if country music isn't your thing, I would suggest a listen (but give him a little time to really get into the groove of the show and be very wary of the Spade Cooley episode, that was a hard listen), it's totally engrossing. I especially enjoyed the episode about Loretta Lynn's The Pill and Bobbie Gentry's Ode to Billie Joe.

ღ - Speaking of podcasts, I get such schadenfreude every time someone drags Sword & Scale and its host. I can't stop listening--the production values are too polished that it's just too easy to listen to--but I can't say I've been willing to recommend it for a long time, just because I really disliked the way the host treated various mental illnesses and the way it overdramatizes everything, until it's basically a highly polished A Very Special Episode podcast. So, when I see others have the same feelings, ahhhh, I'm not alone!

ღ - I don't know if I'll get a full recs set for The Terror, because honestly The Devils Before Us by MasterOfAllImagination is absolutely everything I needed from fandom. Crozier/Fitzjames "return to England and begin the long journey home" and it's perfect, the subtle buildup and the work to try to reintegrate into London society and how well that goes/doesn't go sometimes, how they're not the people they started out as, how the fic really nails their characters and their relationship, especially Crozier's character (since its his pov). It's just really lovely and really satisfying, what else could I ask for than a fic that does the rest of the heavy lifting for their relationship?

ღ - I saw some Dick/Babs kissing on the latest episodes of Young Justice, which makes me tempted to catch up, but I haven't read/watched anything DC in years and I'm not sure the magic would still be there for me, but it does my heart good to know my OTP of OTPs is getting kissing scenes!

ღ - Please wish me luck in getting through this pile of fic recs I am attempting!

ღ - I spent most of yesterday napping because of shark week and then today being all hermity and making a crapload of gifs. Oh my god my main blog is getting so overrun with gif posts, but I just can't stop myself, I want to gif everything.

ღ - I used to think, "Look, I don't write that much meta, it's not that hard to organize stuff." but I think maybe it's more that I'm decent at finding the posts I want to reference, because as I'm trying to organize this for posting onto DW, it's been very, "Oh, shit, I do yell about a lot of things." and quickly getting overwhelmed. (I miss the ability to schedule posts!)

ღ - Even if I don't actually ever get everything archived, I'm at least having fun with the conversations here and I like the more laid back pace! So, I'll keep going as I have. And onwards to more crying about the GFFA!

I've been kind of spinning for the last week or so, in a mostly good way, because there's so many things I want to do! I think between SW fic slowing down all across the board lately and my creeping up on overexposure to all things Star Wars (which is great when everything is super good and Relevant To My Interests, less so when it's quality stuff but doesn't quite scratch the itch I have), I've needed to consume other things for awhile, just give myself some decompression room.

I still have a little ways to go before going back to SW full bore, but I'm getting there! In the meantime, let me yell about other stuff! :D

ღ - The big thing that's consumed me is FarmVille which, yes, I know is the most uncool game ever, but I love it. I love decorating and I love collecting things and I've gotten in with some other players who are really helpful and I have been just SAILING THROUGH ALL OF IT, SO MANY CUTE DECORATIONS, SO MANY CUTE ANIMALS, NEW FARM NEW FARM NEW FARM, I'M HALFWAY TO FINISHING THE MAIN QUEST AND IT HASN'T EVEN BEEN A WEEK!!! (For reference, these days FV puts out a new farm probably every 2-3 months, but the main quest usually lasts about 5 weeks, then you have a bit of a breather before it all starts again.)

What I've been doing is, because the new farm (a Moroccan themed farm) has such limited space, I decided to decorate on an older farm, the Desert Oasis one, since they're similar enough in theme that stuff looks good together and am I going to take screencaps and share my in progress work on this farm? WHY YES I AM.

ExpandLumi yelling about Farmville again )

ღ - I watched The Terror over a couple of nights and it was quite the experience! For at least half of the series, I couldn't say I really precisely cared about any of the characters, yet there was this magnetic pull to the story, it was impossible to stop watching one after the next! But, by the end, yeah, okay, I had definitely developed feelings for pretty much everyone and I can see why ffa is so obsessed with it, it's really well-done and incredibly engaging and there are some stellar performances.

I read a bit from the creators afterwards and one of the things I really liked about it was that they said they deliberately decided ahead of time that there weren't going to be any jump scares, which then freed them up to go in all these other directions to establish the tension and frightening elements of the show. I can't say it was a particularly scary show, despite that I watched in the middle of the night, the thing that haunted me more than anything else was an entirely human moment of violence. But that doesn't mean it was less engaging for that, instead I think it forced them to tell an interesting story and they did a really fantastic job at creating this terrible situation that just keeps going downhill, but without feeling like a slog. You know how this all has to end, there's always another problem, and yet the journey to that end is the focus, it's not trying to fool you, it's not trying to take a cheap shot at scaring you, but instead it's telling the story of what these people went through and that so, so much of it was about themselves, not actually about the monster chasing them.

It helps, too, that there's no rape/rape threats (other violence and some gore, but this isn't The Walking Dead, either) and it was just so refreshingly dark without being edgelord grimdark. That and combined with a cast of characters that get stripped down and stripped down until you see who they really are, as portrayed by excellent actors? It was SUCH an experience.

I may be downloading some fic onto my reader as we speak. (I didn't think I'd have any ships by the end, but, boy, did I. I like the friendships, but also there were 2-3 pairings that I feel the siren song of needing more for.)

ღ - Aw, shit. I wasn't going to watch s2 of The Punisher because that trailer was the most lackluster thing just about ever (Netflix MCU really feels phoned in the last year or so, which kind of makes it easier that they're probably going to cancel all of it any day now) but then I saw a mention of [SPOILERS] on ffa and, shit, now I gotta watch it!

ღ - GRACE AND FRANKIE SEASON 5. I AM EXCITED. :D

ღ - I got sucked into reading all about Sarah Rees Brennan wank (here and here and here) and it's just, jeez, the Cassie Claire wank is the wank that never ends. It's pretty boggling to read through all of that, but I couldn't stop watching the trainwreck. (I have no opinions on SRB, she wasn't my area of fandom, I haven't read her books, the only opinion I have is, "Never forgive, never forget, CC." at least until she showed a sincere apology and owned up to it, but I don't think that's ever happening.)
gffa: (Default)
ღ - I've had a bit of the return of what I think of as my "gray" days, where everything seems colorless and lifeless and nothing seems fun anymore, everything is just gray. I'm not in a miserable place mentally and I think today seems better, it might just be that I was having trouble finding something to read that really sparked me + coming down off the high of the Obi-Wan comic + some RL stuff, but if I ghost on some stuff, you'll know why.

ღ - In brighter news, I finally got the Join the Resistance audiobooks! They're ones I don't think I could read because my reading time is fairly limited, so I have to prioritize the things I really want, but I have more listening time, so this is perfect. I am excited to care about more adorable kids fighting back against a fucked up world!

ღ - An older meta piece (mostly in that I've found far more examples of it being used in Legends especially, rather than just this small handful, but I maintain my point that it's not nearly as prevalent as fic makes it out to be) but one that I think still shows an important evolution of Jedi worldbuilding and how fanon runs with something a lot more than canon itself does.

ღ - I've been going through the recs on day three of fandom snowflake challenge, hoping to find some good fic to pick up, and surprisingly the best fandom for that has been Tolkien fandom! Part of that is because I no longer go through the tags myself since the piping issue on AO3 makes it more work than it's worth, but part of is just that there's some really good Silm fic being recommended!

I wonder, do I gravitate towards Silm fic because it has a much harder time being influenced by moviefic, which I have loved many wonderful pieces of, but would also happily burn to the ground if I could? Or am I just more into those characters these days? /navel gazes

ღ - Current podcast rec: I'm only one episode into the second season of In the Dark but already it's got me hooked and reminds me of why it's one of the best investigative podcasts out there. The case is laid out really well, the interviews are fantastic, and the production values make it so easy to listen to!

ღ - A break from Dark Lord of the Sith and today I'm going to put the first two Age of Republic issues together, since I think they complement each other well. And also 'cause I want to.

ღ - I wish I felt more comfortable talking about Steven Universe, because the worldbuilding on that show is phenomenal, but I binged the early seasons so long ago and wasn't really paying attention to the detail, that I feel like anything substantive (that others haven't covered better) would get lost in the crowd.

Add in that most of my thoughts/feelings tend to be speculative rather than poring over what we've just been given (which is not my preferred area of "making the time and focus to write these things down in words" meta) and it just sort of doesn't quite coalesce in my mind. Hence why [personal profile] bell should put together an SU post about last night's episode, so I can crib off her work instead. ^_~

(I just have So. Many. Feelings. about Pink Diamond!)

ღ - Podcast rec for the day: Dr. Death over on Wondery. It's about the surgeon who was so bad that he maimed 30+ patients for life and ultimately faced criminal charges for how bad he was. It's a little more sensationalist than I'd prefer (mostly in the presentation, rather than in the incredible research that's gone into the podcast, like, yes, having a folksy theme song is engaging, but is it really the tone you want to set?) but it's gripping and an incredibly well told story, one that's only partly about the man himself and is just as much about how the medical field got to where it is.

ღ - Comics meta! As always, don't hold me to my initial reactions on this issue, I'd probably be more favorable in a reread (though, I was warming up to it at this point), but I want to archive them as they were to show my journey with the comic, and that's the point of dusting off this DW!

ღ - Now that Dark Lord of the Sith has finished and the holiday season business is winding down, it's time to get back to organizing + archiving some meta as best I can! And just being more social!

ღ - In that vein, I'm always looking for podcast recs, though, I often have trouble articulating what I like when I listen. Currently, my favorites are Oh No Ross and Carrie (a perpetual favorite, but I've been listening again and it's delightful as always, the hosts are such good spirited people and it's a great mix of skeptic investigation and just a good old time!) and Cold (a true crime podcast focused on the case of a woman who went missing and it's basically assumed the husband killed her, but since everyone is dead now, they can't really prove it, and it's pretty engrossing so far).

Now I'm curious what everyone else listens to!

ღ - DARTH VADER: DARK LORD OF THE SITH #1

Early issues weren't as thoroughly meta'd about as later issues will be, but that'll pick up around #5, which was when the series went from fun to great for me and really put the structure of it in place. Ie, that Anakin Skywalker was in deep denial no matter how hard the Force tried to scream in his face that he was doing this all wrong.

I meant to format more meta to archive today, but then a) giffing ALL THE THINGS happened and b) also NAPS ARE GREAT happened, so instead some brief round-up content.

- This College Humor tumblr video had me legit irl cackling by the end of it, by the time I go to, "GO TO HELL!" I lost it. I like ProZD's tumblr video as well, the ending of, "I'm free!" made it, but the CH one is even funnier.

- No new new Steven Universe yesterday and I'm sad about that, since it'll be another week until we get the new episode. "Legs from Here to Homeworld" hadn't aired on TV, so it was a "new to TV" episode yesterday, and the new-to-everyone episode will be next week. SIGH. What ELSE am I supposed to do?? CATCH UP ON ALL THE OTHER STUFF I HAVE TO READ/WATCH?

- Well, I guess. I'm catching up on The Simpsons and just got to their TV recapping episode and, honestly, I mostly only still watch the show out of momentum, because I like animated shows and it's just comfortable enough to keep going. It's been a rough ride because they haven't really had anything new to say and, okay, this one wasn't that interesting, but at least it wasn't yet another 20+ minutes of nothing but weight jokes at Homer's expense. The poke at people recapping shows was kinda cute and it's nice to feel like the show is trying again! (I could not get more than two and a half episodes into Disenchanted, like, guys, no, you don't have to try that hard, please stop trying so hard to be edgy and humorous just because you're on Netflix now.)

- There was no new episode of Bob's Burgers this week, either, and I don't know when I became so addicted to this show? It started off as being kind of super off-putting and weird, a bit too LOL RANDOM (especially with so many women being voiced by men), but eventually the relentlessly good family--"weird, but happy kids" as their uncle described them--and them being actually good people won me over. It's one of my favorites now, because it's just so entirely good natured.

- I have written approximately 40 recs for a new Star Wars set and still have about a dozen to go and the problem is that people keep posting cool fic that I want to add to it! I'm never gonna catch up at this rate! But it is another reason I've been a little AWOL lately--that and ALL THE GIFS--because my brain is finally in fic-reading mode again. \o/

I have done largely nothing but sleep, sleep, sleep, and sleep in my free time, so I haven't felt very social and have barely made anything for tumblr (most of what I've posted was either scheduled ahead of time or made previously for easy posting), so I'm going to make an effort to get my head out of that space and be a little more social on this journal.

- I'm a little >:/ about tumblr pulling all these shenanigans this week, because on Wednesday the last issue of Dark Lord of the Sith comes out and I'm pretty sure I'm going to WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT A LOT. [personal profile] glompcat showed me Soule posted the first page of the issue on twitter and WHOA SO INTERESTING. ExpandMild potential spoilers for Dark Lord of the Sith 25 )

- January isn't that far away now, so the next Age of Republic comic will be the Obi-Wan one, which is one of the few (I think??) pre-AOTC stories we'll have and then a week after that, we're getting Pirate's Price (Hondo counts as a prequels character!), then the Jango Fett comic, then the Star Wars Adventures comic about Padme and Jar Jar, then the Age of Republic special with the three stories about Mace, Ventress, and Rex, then the Age of Republic Anakin comic, then the Age of Republic Dooku comic, then Star Wars Adventures has an Obi-Wan and Rex comic, then Queen's Shadow, then Choose Your Destiny: An Obi-Wan and Anakin Adventure, then the Padme and Grievous Age of Republic comics somewhere in there, and then Master and Apprentice. That's a really steady stream of prequels content over the next three and a half months, a lot of which focuses on Obi-Wan and it makes me wonder how much stock there was to that rumor that the Obi-Wan movie was supposed to have happened, the theory that we might have been getting it around the time all of this would be leading up to, or if it's just that the prequels are finally coming back into fashion.

All of this stuff takes years to plan out, so a lot of this would have been in the works for awhile, which means I can believe it's just that it took this long for the prequels stuff to come out, even though the tide has been shifting back in their favor for awhile OR I can believe it was supposed to be a build-up to an Obi-Wan movie that got put on the back burner because of Solo.

Either way, lots of prequels content! I'm SO NERVOUS about that Master and Apprentice book, but I guess I'm gonna have to read it anyway.

- I never watched much of Voltron: Legendary Defender beyond the first season, so I can't really weigh in on any of the discourse, I only reblogged pretty Allura fanart, but I think it's safe to say BULLET DODGED THERE.

To the point that, knowing a lot of the people who were involved in that fandom are going to head over to She-Ra fandom (along with some thorny personal experiences around the show), makes me sort of want to dodge that bullet, too.

Oh, well, Steven Universe comes back today AND I AM EXCITED. I hope to gif it when it drops, but also it might be nice to write up a reaction post where I'm not afraid tumblr will reblog it and scream at me for daring to just casually like something instead of hating it with the fire of a thousand suns.
gffa: (Default)
I originally wanted to post a lot of meta in chronological order, to start with the oldest and work my way forward, but so many of the older posts are much shorter (before I got comfortable doing longer pieces on tumblr) that it's hard to justify just posting a single paragraph or two.

So instead I'm going to have to give up on the idea of any kind of coherent timeline and firmly remind myself that it doesn't really matter that much anyway. Maybe at some point in the future I'll create an index of in order stuff and that can be my organization instead!

Plus, I'm far more excited about current comics than I am about old stuff I only halfway remember. XD

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to organize and collate some of these posts, because I'd like to group some of them together if I could, but that does mean a lot of combing through posts and I don't think DW has the ability to do multiple drafts, which would be really helpful right about now.

I want to eventually have a nice, organized (and easily navigable) compilation of all this stuff, but the way tumblr is pretty much "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" really does make it harder to go back later and make an archive of it, rather than living in the moment.

Oh, well, onwards I go, I shall figure this out as I work on it!

Obi-Wan Kenobi is not someone who wears his emotions on his sleeve, he is very much about subtle gestures and understated words, but he whole-heartedly means them and he was entirely devoted to Anakin and did his best to make sure Anakin knew he was available for emotional support whenever he was ready for it and I’m not crying about it noBODY TOUCH ME I’M CRYING ABOUT IT.

I was talking with @belldreams the other night and she’d recently rewatched ANH and brought up the question: “Why did Obi-Wan let Darth Vader strike him down?” and, boy, do I have thoughts and feelings about that scene!

Anonymous Asked: Just marathoned the prequels; why is Anakin such a whiny little bitch?

Possibly you meant this in nothing but a derogatory way, not wanting any kind of serious answer, but HA HA I AM THE WRONG PERSON TO POSE SUCH A QUESTION TO THEN.

Original posts here and here.

The intended goal is to provide a mirror for my meta and comic blogging posts (or at least the sufficiently meta-esque ones) and I'll use the tumblr image embeds, since that's easiest, but if tumblr gets nuked, I'll hopefully go back and find another place to upload them. Comic panels aren't so bad, but gifs might hit that 500mb limit on DW (or whatever it is).

I'm starting with some of my older meta, which tends to lean heavier on Legends stuff, because I really didn't understand the delineation between the two and I've grown far more invested in Canon as they've developed it. I'll mark which is which, but keep in mind that many of these posts are over a year old. They're probably still 99% in line with how I feel, but there might be some occasional evolutions of understanding in any follow-up discussions. (Still, feel free to engage with me about them, if you want! I heartily welcome that. ♥)

This may turn out to be a good thing, now that I think about it.

I don't think that fandom will be heading back to dreamwidth in massive numbers, but I do really love the idea of having this as a backup in case something does happen and I want to know where to find people. And the good thing about this is that it will (hopefully!) force me to post here once in awhile, if I make the effort to remember to mirror meta here, so I have backups of that in case tumblr gets nuked.

That's my plan for this journal--the occasional personal post, checking my flist, and then basically an archive of stuff I especially don't want to lose. Feel free to comment here (threaded comments!!!!) or even filter me out if you're just here to keep tabs on me in case tumblr gets nuke or just lurk or what have you.
